Development of a Memorial Site

Due to reasons of infrastructure, a memorial site cannot be realized before 2017. Therefore the Office for Cultural Affairs, HafenCity Hamburg and the Mitte district administration furbished the Lohseplatz grounds in 2007 with garden landscaping, street furnishings and informational panels, so that a dignified commemoration at this site is also possible during the interim period.

Information and Documentation Center

Lohseplatz is to be developed into a worthy memorial and a place of commemoration and learning. To this end, a permanent exhibition is planned which will focus on Lohseplatz as a deportation site, the process of persecution and disenfranchisement, the role of the people responsible as well as those who profited, and first and foremost on the biographies of the victims. »
